The second Unitarian Principle states “We affirm and promote justice, equality and compassion in human relations.” and the seventh Principle states “We affirm and promote respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.”
Our work falls under the following categories:
Income Inequality – Donations to ACSA, Flemingdon Park Ministry and North York Women’s Shelter. We also help with the Out of the Cold Program at Knox United Church.
International Development and Security – We annually send a donation to USC Canada and we write letters to Amnesty International. We continue to have speakers on the Palestinian-Israel Peace Challenges.
Diversity and Equality – We have been helping to support a Syrian Family in partnership with the Toronto First Congregation with their Save a Family from Syria Program. In 2016, we donated $1,000 to the Native Canadian Centre in Toronto and $4,000 to Indspire.
Climate Change Action and Environmental Awareness – We host guest speakers each year on these issues. In the past we have been involved in some clean-up efforts along the Don River. We recycle in our own space and try to include education in this area. We have been learning about the benefits of plant-based eating through a monthly Starch Solution Potluck.
Do any of these areas interest you? How would you like to use your time or talents to help make the world a better place?
